What is Botox® and how does it work?
Botox® is an FDA-approved neuromodulator treatment in the form of a naturally occurring purified protein. Botox® works beneath the surface to temporarily decrease muscle activity that leads to frown lines, crow's feet, vertical lines, fine lines and wrinkles, softening their appearance. With over 30 years of active application and millions of treatments performed worldwide, Botox® is one of the most rigorously tested, safe and impactful procedures in non-invasive aesthetic medicine. Treatment takes just minutes to perform.
How much does Botox® cost?
The average cost of Botox® is about $12 per unit, depending on your concerns and the areas selected for treatment. Some patients require less Botox® with each maintenance treatment performed, which can reduce overall costs.
What areas can be treated with Botox®?
Botox® is well-known for its ability to reduce wrinkles in the forehead and between the brows – a skilled injector may also treat the following areas and concerns:

Who is an ideal candidate?
Most individuals in good health are potential candidates for Botox®. How long until I see results from Botox®?
Reduction in the harshness of lines begins taking effect about 1–2 days after treatment, and patients can expect to see optimal results after 1 week.
How long do results from Botox® last?
The cosmetic improvements from Botox® last about 4-5 months for most patients. Often, we see that less Botox® is required over time when performing touch-ups, which are safe to treat with for as long as desired.
Are there any side effects or risks from Botox®?
Side effects from Botox® differ by treatment area, and are often associated with unqualified or novice injectors. Most individuals tolerate Botox® well – however, rare side effects may include but are not limited to:
- Dry eyes
- Numbness
- Mild pain, swelling, bruising or redness around the injection area
- Headache
- Temporary eyelid droop
Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease should not be treated with Botox®.
Is there any down time?
As Botox® is a non-invasive procedure performed in just minutes, no downtime is typically necessary – most patients may apply makeup and return to daily activities immediately following treatment. We recommend avoiding heavy exercise or pressing on the treatment area in the first 24 hours after injection.
Can Botox® Help with Excess Sweating?
Yes! A common procedure we perform with Botox® is to treat hyperhidrosis (excess sweating)! Botox® is injected to target and treat the nerves responsible for excessive sweating. This procedure will stop targeted sweat glands from producing too much sweat.
Will Botox® Help with Teeth Grinding?
Another use for Botox® is for teeth grinding, called bruxism. We target the masseter muscle in the jaw (responsible for closing the jaw for chewing) to prevent the signals responsible for grinding, clenching, and contracting.
Does Botox® Help Treat Migraine Headaches?
Absolutely! An additional procedure to help our clients treat chronic migraines, Botox® injections are used in strategic areas around the head, face, and neck to block and inhibit pain receptors associated with migraines.
Can Botox® Treat a Gummy Smile?
This is something we do frequently that can make such a difference in our clients’ appearance! This quick procedure will relax the muscles in the upper lip to limit gum exposure when smiling, resulting in a look that makes our clients feel more comfortable with their smile.
What is Micro-Botox® and How is it Different?
Micro-Botox®, often referred to as “Baby Botox®,” is a procedure that provides a subtle change in the face that creates a smoother, more youthful appearance. Unlike traditional Botox® injections, minimal amounts of Botox are strategically injected around the client’s face, often done with 50% less Botox® than standard procedures! This treatment is particularly popular for clients who are new to Botox® or those who are seeking to prevent the formation of wrinkles in the future.
Can Botox® Improve the Appearance of Lips without Adding Volume?
Yes! The Lip Flip procedure is a particularly popular Botox application at our facility! This nonsurgical procedure provides a fuller appearance to the lips without adding additional volume by targeting the corners of the mouth and edges of the lips. This causes the lip to naturally lift and appear slightly fuller than normal. A Lip Flip is also a popular choice when correcting the look of smokers’ lines!
What is Juvederm® and how does it work?
Juvederm® is an FDA-approved family of dermal fillers comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural compound found in skin that aids in maintaining its plumpness and elasticity. Over time, this compound breaks down, leading to decreased facial volume and a looser appearance to the skin.
Juvederm® fillers enhance the cheeks, chin, lips and other areas of the face for an uplifted, fuller and more youthful appearance. At Forefront Dermatology, we select from Juvederm® ULTRA, ULTRA Plus, Volbella, Vollure and Voluma fillers to best achieve client goals and complement each unique skin type.
How much does Juvederm® cost?

How long does Juvederm® filler last?
Depending on the filler formula you select with Dr. Dietrich, results from Juvederm® can last in the range of 6 to 18 months. We often perform touch-ups for our clients to maintain long-term results.
Are there any side effects or risks from Juvederm®?
As Juvederm® is comprised of non-toxic, biocompatible hyaluronic acid naturally produced by the body, any side effects experienced by patients are typically mild and transient. These potential side effects may include:
- Redness, discoloration or bruising at the injection site
- Swelling and/or bumps
- Tenderness
- Firmness
- Itching

Can I combine Botox® and Juvederm®, or other injectables?
It's quite common to augment results from Botox® with a dermal filler such as Juvederm®. This combination of procedures has often been referred to as a liquid facelift for its rejuvenating effect. Based on your individual concerns and goals, we will provide recommendations during your complimentary consultation.
What is your injectables treatment like?
Our injectables treatment plans begin with a complimentary consultation, during which time Dr. Dietrich will discuss your desired results with you and provide recommendations for optimal procedures. If treating with Botox®, your muscle movements and expressions will be observed to customize treatment to your individual anatomy. Once a treatment plan is finalized, Dr. Dietrich will provide instructions on how to prepare for treatment, including avoiding use of certain substances (includes but is not limited to aspirin, alcohol, and ibuprofen).
On the day of your appointment, our staff will assist you in reaching your treatment room, where you will be comfortably seated after initial photos are taken. Areas targeted for treatment will then be cleaned with an alcohol-based sanitizing wipe. In some cases, a numbing agent may be applied to minimize sensation. Dr. Dietrich will then quickly and safely administer the injections of Botox® or filler through a very fine needle or blunt tip canula. The procedure is complete in just 15-30 minutes, and you will be on your way to enjoying long-lasting cosmetic results.
What precautions are you taking for patient safety?
