FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

NEUROMODULATORS WRINKLE RELAXING

What is Botox® and how does it work?

Botox® is an FDA-approved neuromodulator treatment in the form of a naturally occurring purified protein. Botox® works beneath the surface to temporarily decrease muscle activity that leads to frown lines, crow's feet, vertical lines, fine lines and wrinkles, softening their appearance. With over 30 years of active application and millions of treatments performed worldwide, Botox® is one of the most rigorously tested, safe and impactful procedures in non-invasive aesthetic medicine. Treatment takes just minutes to perform.

In addition to Botox®, we offer the FDA-approved neuromodulators Dysport® and Xeomin®. During your complimentary consultation, our injectables experts will help determine which neuromodulator treatment is optimal for your concerns.

How much does treatment cost?

Depending on the neuromodulator you decide on with Dr. Kent and the areas selected for treatment, the cost ranges from about $6-$15 per unit. Some patients require less treatment with each maintenance procedure performed, which can reduce overall costs.

What areas can be treated?

Neuromodulators are well-known for their ability to reduce wrinkles in the forehead and between the brows – a skilled injector may also treat the following concerns:

  • Crow's feet and other areas around the eyes
  • Marionette lines and other lines around the mouth
  • Lip flip for a fuller appearance
  • Platysma bands (twin muscles that run the center-front of the neck, treated in what is known as a "Nefertiti lift")
  • Horizontal necklace lines (creased lines running horizontally across the neck)
  • Eyebrow enhancement
  • Treating a gummy smile
  • Jawline slimming

Who is an ideal candidate?

Most individuals in good health are potential candidates for neuromodulators. Patients of a variety of ages may choose to treat with Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin®, often as a preventative measure against wrinkle formation in the 20s or 30s, or to reduce the appearance of current fine lines in the 40s and beyond. The only way to determine the ideal procedure for your concerns is to schedule your complimentary consultation, where you will meet with our experts to discuss your goals.

How long until I see results from treatment?

Reduction in the harshness of lines begins taking effect about 1–2 days after treatment, and patients can expect to see optimal results after 1 week.

How long do results last?

The cosmetic improvements from neuromodulators last about 3-4 months for most patients. Often, we see that less treatment is required over time when performing touch-ups, which are safe to treat with for as long as desired.

Are there any side effects or risks?

Side effects for each neuromodulator are similar but differ by treatment area, and are often associated with unqualified or novice injectors. Most individuals tolerate treatment well – however, rare side effects may include but are not limited to:

  • Dry eyes
  • Numbness
  • Mild pain, swelling, bruising or redness around the injection area
  • Headache

Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease should not be treated with neuromodulators.

Is there any down time?

As neuromodulators are non-invasive procedures performed in just minutes, no downtime is typically necessary – most patients may apply makeup and return to daily activities immediately following treatment. We recommend avoiding heavy exercise or pressing on the treatment area in the first 24 hours after injection.

DERMAL FILLERS NATURAL AUGMENTATION

What are dermal fillers made of and how do they work?

Forefront Dermatology exclusively treats with FDA-approved dermal fillers comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural compound found in skin that aids in maintaining its plumpness and elasticity.

Dermal fillers enhance the cheeks, chin, lips and other areas of the face for an uplifted, fuller and more youthful appearance. At Forefront Dermatology in Arlington, we select from Juvederm® family fillers, Restylane® and the RHA® filler collection to best achieve patient goals and complement each unique skin type.

How much do dermal fillers cost?

The average cost for dermal fillers is about $600-$800 per syringe. The Forefront Dermatology team in Arlington is able to offer our fillers at an affordable rate for patients to suit a range of budgets.

What concerns can dermal fillers treat?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are well-known for their ability to effectively treat or augment areas causing a variety of cosmetic concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Smoothing wrinkles and creases
  • Adding volume to the lip, cheeks, chin and jawline
  • Filling out tear-troughs
  • Reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds (lines running from the nostril to the corner of the mouth)
  • Reducing the appearance of marionette lines (lines running from the corner of the mouth to the chin)
  • Liquid rhinoplasty for minimally invasive nose augmentation

Who is an ideal candidate?

Most individuals in good health are potential candidates for treatment. Dermal fillers are ideal for correcting cosmetic concerns at a variety of ages, with options ranging from lip enhancement to smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The only way to determine if dermal fillers are the optimal procedure for your concerns is to visit our office for a complimentary consultation, where you will meet with our injectables experts to discuss your goals.

How long until I see results from treatment?

While most patients notice an immediate difference after treatment, dermal filler may require up to 2 weeks to soften and settle in to the skin – the full effect will be visible within about 14 days of receiving your treatment.

How long does dermal filler treatment last?

Depending on the filler formula you select with Dr. Kent, results from dermal filler treatment can last in the range of 6 to 24 months. We often perform touch-ups for our patients to maintain long-term results.

Are there any side effects or risks?

As our dermal filler options are comprised of non-toxic, biocompatible hyaluronic acid naturally produced by the body, common side effects experienced by patients are typically mild and transient. These side effects may include:

  • Redness, discoloration or bruising at the injection site
  • Swelling and/or bumps
  • Tenderness
  • Firmness
  • Itching

Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease should not be treated with dermal fillers. There are rare serious complications of filler injection including infection, stroke, blindness and scarring. Dr. Kent utilizes a cannula device which is the safest filler delivery technology. Although his patients have never experienced such complications, he is well versed in complication management. With Dr. Kent, you can feel confident and safe that you are in good hands.

Is there any down time?

As treatment is non-invasive and can be performed in just minutes, no downtime is typically necessary – most patients may apply makeup and return to daily activities immediately following treatment. We recommend avoiding heavy exercise or pressing on the treatment area in the first 24 hours after injection.

Why does experience matter when treating with injectables?

The quality of your experience with a neuromodulator or dermal filler is impacted greatly by the skill and knowledge of your injector. Dr. Kent utilizes a cannula device which is the safest filler delivery technology, providing for the most elegant tissue integration and ultimately the most natural result in soft tissue augmentation.

Can I combine neuromodulators and dermal fillers?

It's quite common to augment results from a neuromodulator like Botox® with a dermal filler such as Restylane®. This combination of procedures has often been referred to as a liquid facelift for its rejuvenating effect. Based on your individual concerns, we will provide recommendations during your complimentary consultation.

What is your injectables treatment like?

Our injectables treatment plans begin with a complimentary consultation, during which time our experts will discuss your desired results with you and provide recommendations for optimal procedures. If treating with Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin®, your muscle movements and expressions will be observed to customize treatment to your individual anatomy.

Once a treatment plan is finalized, areas targeted for treatment will then be cleaned with an alcohol-based sanitizing wipe. In some cases, a numbing agent may be applied to minimize sensation. Dr. Kent will then quickly and safely administer the injections of Botox® or filler through a very fine needle or blunt tip canula. The procedure is complete in just 15-30 minutes, and you will be on your way to enjoying long-lasting cosmetic results.

After treatment, you will be provided recommendations for follow-up care. To ensure the best experience for patients, we offer a complimentary laser treatment if patients experience any bruising, and if you have any concerns about your results, we also offer complimentary touch-ups 7 to 10 days after treatment.

What precautions are you taking for patient safety?

Forefront Dermatology strives to be on the cutting edge of customer service and safety. All guests and staff are asked to securely wear a mask while inside our office. We follow strict cleaning protocol after each procedure and common areas are cleaned regularly. Please contact us if you have any questions.
